Organisational Benefits
The organisational benefits, in terms of reducing operational costs, for UK plc have been difficult to directly quantify. However, through examination of the Nuclear Skills Passport Business Case Model, there is a clear case for the Nuclear Skills Passport to the whole nuclear sector in terms of both the strategic benefits and cost savings in particular. Overall, the potential cost savings to UK plc, realised through savings in a single Supply Chain Contract are considered to be substantial - circa 450k; modelled on a large organisation with 2500 employees.
Strategic Benefits The strategic benefits of the Skills Passport for UK plc include:-
- Increased Flexibility and Mobility; - meaning that industry can successfully and safely respond to the peaks and troughs of demand and maximise the use of the UK Skills Base.
- Retention of Skills; - Increase retention of high quality skills in the industry as employees can be re-trained and recognised as able to work in changing sectors as we move from Operations to Decommissioning to New Build, and from Defence to Civil Nuclear.
- Demonstration of SQEP; - An effective and nationally recognised system, aiding in the demonstration of SQEP requirements to regulators.
- Attraction and Career Progression;- Improve and increase attraction of quality people into the sector as it will be seen as an industry with clear career paths and a sector which offers development and career progression at all levels and for all entry routes.
- Skills Forecasting; - A clear picture of future skills needs can be developed using the Nuclear Skills Passport to enable effective forward planning and budgeting.
- Efficiency of Delivery: It will enable the Supply Chain to operate in a more timely and effective manner as repeat training will not be constantly required, meaning that contractors will be able to start implementing contracts far more effectively and quickly.
